About the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer

Bishop Jon Bruno and the diocesan World Mission Group present this prayer cycle to enrich common worship and private devotions in the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles during the year.

Listings in this cycle are entered under these headings:

Congregations: Each parish and mission in the six-county Diocese of Los Angeles is listed according to its patronal festival or “name day” and the year it was incorporated.

Institutions, Organizations, Agencies and Schools: Each entity is listed by the date of its founding.

Clergy: Each bishop, priest and deacon residing within the diocese is listed by the date of his or her ordination.

Clergy Widows/Widowers: Each person is listed on the date of his or her spouse’s death.

World Mission Companions: Also remembered on significant dates are people of two particular Anglican regions—the Diocese of El Salvador—with which the Diocese of Los Angeles joined in Companion Relationship by vote of its Diocesan Convention in 2003 (and renewed through June 30, 2009) and  the Diocese of Jerusalem, with which Los Angeles joined in a Companion Relationship by vote of its Diocesan Convention in 2005. The Diocese of Los Angeles maintains a Friendship Relationship with the Diocese of Belize.

An asterisk (*) at the beginning of an entry denotes a movable or deferred feast day. Note: Please Click Here for a guide to moveable feasts and other observances within the diocese.

Days on which no anniversary or patronal festival occurs in the diocese are not listed.

Ecumenical Covenant

Please remember throughout the year to pray for our friends and colleagues in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the Southern California (West) Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, with whom our diocese on November 21, 1993, entered an ecumenical covenant of daily prayer and cooperative ministry whenever possible.

Prayer for World Mission Companions

God, Lord of all people, protect and bless El Salvador, Mexico, and Los Angeles as we seek to know you and serve you in each other through our companion relationships. Deepen our compassion, open our hearts to receive and share the good news of salvation. We ask this in the Holy Name of Jesus, Amen.

This prayer is offered to strengthen the three-year World Mission Companion relationships first adopted by Diocesan Convention in 1995 and renewed by Convention in 1999.
